On Sunday May 6, the Costambar Softball tournament held its opening day for the 2018 season at River Softball Field located in 759 River ST, Paterson NJ. The anticipated event included a total of 20 teams competing for a chance to win on a nightly basis.

The tournament will be played three days a week. Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays are the selected dates on the schedule. A total of 7 teams will play on Mondays, 7 teams will play on Tuesdays, and 6 teams will play on Thursdays.

For the first time in the city of Paterson the Costambar organization is proud to announce that they have added a new age group to the tournament. Athletes of ages 40 and up have been added to the mix, expanding the growth of the league. These athletes complete a total of 6 teams that will play on Thursday’s as listed before.

Through the event several candidates who are currently running for Mayor of Paterson such as Alex Mendez, Andres Reyes, and Pedro Rodriguez were in attendance and received with a warm welcome from the organization.

Yunior Fermin who is the President of the Costambar league showed his appreciation to the players, fans, team sponsors, city council representatives and candidates running for mayor. Fermin also showed great appreciation for Manuel Gonzalez who did an amazing job in organizing the ceremony and creating funding for the league. Fermin says, “He is a gracious person who has helped our community thrive and has excelled in business work around Paterson. Fermin ends by saying, “We appreciate the support from our fans and candidates.  We hope to see not just one but many softball parks around Paterson revived with the help of the city in order to bring our community together.”
